Just the Beginning

I feel sort of silly making my first blog entry. It's like I have to live up to my own expectations. I've debated blogging for a while. My sister, Leigh, started one a few months ago and I didn't want her to feel like I jumped on her bandwagon. She assured me that she had jumped on everyone else's so why shouldn't I as well.

Most of my posts may not be too terribly interesting, but let's face it....I love to tell a story. If my friends have a problem being called by name in the blog then they better speak up soon. The thing I love next to telling a story is getting a new email. So dear friends, please don't let this blog become an excuse for not emailing me. Most of my friends and family will be making frequent appearances in the blog so I might make a legend on the side with names and small photos.

Harry Potter

So yes, I was there at 1:00 am on Saturday morning to buy Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Only because I happened to be awake. At least I wasn't wearing a cape like one grown a** girl at Kroger. I finished it on Monday night and that's after I tried to pace myself so I could enjoy it a little longer. I have to get more than two days of entertainment for $18.00. Thank goodness Clayton called last night to discuss it, because I had SO much to talk about and I was about to resort to HP messageboards. So many whaaaat? how? and why? questions to be answered and talked through. I can't wait until more friends finish reading so we can discuss it. I really don't know how she's going to wrap it up in just one book. It was sooo good.

For the umpteenth time

Tonight I printed invitations for the fifth wedding shower I've hosted this year. Fifth. What is wrong with me? I need to learn to keep my mouth shut and let other people host, but then I'd attend and think how much better I could have done it. I'm such a control freak. I want people to have nice things and I try my hardest to make that happen, even if that means I end up spending way too much money.

Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with all these showers, but I love weddings. They can be so beautiful. I'm going to be a bridesmaid again next weekend. I now have brown, red, green, black, another red, pink, and navy blue bridesmaid dresses. It's always an honor to be asked and I'm really looking forward to Holly's wedding. I even get to wear metallic high heels which I've been dying to purchase for a while. They are cute. They aren't like LA Gear 80s gold, but a nice silvery gold. So that's my story for now. I'll post some pictures after the wedding.

I supervise a student worker at work and sometimes have a say in who gets hired. I had one quit in March so I announced in church that I had a job for someone. I secretly hoped that a girl named Emily would be interested and was so happy when she walked up to me after church to get more info. I got to know her a little when she worked for me back in my hideous Geppeddo mall kiosk days. Anyway, she's been working here since March and I love her. We laugh and sing and enjoy a dark chocolate Hershey Kiss every now and then. We decided that we'd be quite funny to watch if someone put a hidden camera in our office. She cracks me up with her wit and Napolean Dynamite voices. It's a funny dynamic to have because were friends outside of work now, but I'm sort of her "boss". "I'll have my student worker take care of that for you"... I'm a real slave driver.

I thought I'd be better at this

I used to get annoyed when my sister would go days without blogging. Now I understand. I think about blogging like ten times a day when something funny comes up, but then I never get around to it.

Holly's wedding stuff has been keeping me busy this week. I was making some CD covers for her and my printer ran out of ink so I had to go to Copy Corner late Monday night. The girl working behind the counter couldn't have been more rude. I asked her to fix a spelling error and she just looked at me and with all kinds of attitude says, "You do realize we charge $.75 per minute to make format changes." Fine I say, just make the change. Then one prints out on two pages instead of one so I ask her to make it print on one page. "How do you expect me to do that?" Uh, reduce the font size jerk. She's supposed to be the desktop genius behind the counter there to offer any assistance needed and she's having to ask me?! What happened to customer service?

Anyway, I'm taking tomorrow off and heading to Austin for Holly's wedding. Then Nance and I are going up to Dallas for a Michael Buble concert on Sunday night. It's going to be a busy weekend, but lots of fun.

Side note...don't steal from work. A woman I talk to regularly on the phone to order office supplies got arrested on Monday for theft. Her mugshot was on the news this morning. She was using the points A&M earned through purchases from Hewlett Packard to buy her own computer, scanners, palm pilots, etc. Genius.

What a Weekend

Well, I'm trying to finish up my day at work without falling asleep, but a thunderstorm just rolled through and makes me want to go home and crawl into bed.

Holly's married. Sigh.

I can't believe it's already over. I almost got my job right. I dropped Jimmy's ring right before the pastor asked for it and it made quite a thud. Jimmy's dad, the best man, took every opportunity during dinner to say, "at least I didn't drop the ring". Wink, wink. It really was a great weekend. Holly was a beautiful, lovely, amazing bride. Definitely no bridezilla. She was even calm when she had to run to CVS to substitute her lost lipstick just 45 minutes before the photographer arrived.

Nancy and I got to sleep-in on Sunday and then scooted(that's a Nancy word) to Dallas for dinner with Kim and CJ and on to Michael Bublé. Not only was he an amazing live performer, the guy is hilarious. Nan and I were very glad we decided to make the long drive. LOVE him. We got back to Austin around 2:00am and then I got up to drive back to CS this morning in time for 8:00am work. 802 miles on the car since Thursday evening! OK--time for a nap.

But Hilary Duff has a greatest hits album coming out? I can only name one of her songs and that's because it the theme song to Laguna Beach, which I love and I'm not ashamed to admit. Maybe I really am getting old and not keeping up with my pop music as well as I used to. Or not. I really only think she's had like three songs on the radio and I know they weren't #1s.

is exhaustion a sickness?

If Mariah Carey can check into a hospital for being tired, then I can call in sick to work, right? I think Emily is going to kill me if I say "I'm tired" one more time. It's just been a really long week with getting ready for Anne's wedding shower last night and finishing up stuff for Holly's reception tomorrow. (I'm happy to do it Holly! Really.) It's so hard to want to be at work on a Friday when there are so many other things I could be doing. But I can sleep in late on Sunday and have a day to myself...no one call me until at least noon. I can't complain though, I was editing some of Holly's wedding pics last night, taking out red eye, etc. (I heart Photoshop) and a huge thunderstorm came through. I turned off my computer and got ready for bed as fast as I could so I could fall asleep to the thunder, lightning, and rain. I love that!

working hard

Not too much going on here. Just at work with nothing terribly important to do. Holly's wedding is officially over. The big hotel reception was on Saturday night and it was big...lots of people. I have a hilarious picture of Holly finally getting to eat some dessert and she is concentrating so hard on scooping it out of the cup that her tongue is sticking out. Love it. Schmoozing all night is hard work. Just reaffirms for me that if I ever get married, only 60 people are invited...hope you all understand!

I have to speak in church in two weeks so that should be bad. I haven't had to speak in Sacrament Meeting since I was like 10 and mom wrote the talk for me back then. I think I have an outline at least of what I'm going to do. It came to me last night as I was trying to fall asleep. Nothing else to report. Speaking of reporting...sad about Peter Jennings. I happened to flip the TV on last night just as the news broke. I can't believe he died so quickly. Boyd was telling me that he had lunch with a guy from ABC yesterday who said it could be any day, but he definitely didn't think that day. Did anyone see Brokaw and Rather on Good Morning America this morning? Charlie Gibson was closing the segment saying some nice things about Jennings and Brokaw asked if he could say one last thing. I assumed he'd say something about Peter, but he said, "I just want to clarify that I'm not in Livingston, MT(where the screen caption said he was), but in McCloud, MT." Weird...came off as very inappropriate.

So at least I tried

Last week at the wedding there was really good food, but it was a lot of meat that I just don't eat. Nancy scolded me a bit for not even trying the lobster. So I had rice that was under the lobster for dinner and Jimmy's friends and Nance ate my shrimp and lobster. Anyway, at the reception a waiter asked if I wanted a tuna and wasabi something. I declined, but he kept telling me how good it was and that I should really try it. It feels immature to not be able to eat meat and fish, so I decided to buck up and try it. I grabbed it and ate all the cracker around it so I could just eat it in one bite. I had to pause several times before I got up the courage to just eat it. I chewed a few times and really thought I was going to make it, but then it happened...gagging. I felt like I was 12 and back at the dinner table with my dad standing over me making me eat the brussels sprouts that were cold because I'd been sitting there so long refusing to eat them. Always with the gagging. So I felt dumb. It's my own fault. I probably shouldn't have jumped into the meat eating thing with raw tuna.
